Here's a fix that has worked for others with this situation, which is indeed
very strange.

Use Explorer to navigate to:

\program files\microsoft antispyware\gcasSWUpdater.exe

(look for a satellite dish icon)--and double click on that.

That should (perhaps after a pause) invoke an offer to auto-download an
update which should take care of this.

It matters what date the expiration states that it is:

The fix I've given is for an expiration date of December 31, 2005.

If you're seeing that it has expired July 31, 2006, there is a different
fix.

Thank you! I have gotten the same error. I am an IT consultant and have run
across this many times now. I'm having the same problem on my personal
computer. This is REDICULOUS!!!

Thank you for posting and thank you Bill for your replies.

I'd be the man if I could tell you why the original download didn't
work--but this is next best, I suppose. This isn't something I discovered,
though. Others here did that, and shared it with me, and I just hang out
and parrot it back. That's the beauty of a peer support forum when it is
working well.

If you are seeing a message that your version is expired, and the date of
that expiration is, in fact, later than the actual calendar date:

1) check the date in your machine to be sure it is, in fact, correct.
2) the fix for this issue, which has occurred throughout the beta--is to
ensure that the long and short date formats for the locale are set to the
defaults--the topmost choice in the dropdown control.
