Microsoft Access has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Ice Pilot Fan

I am running XP Pro service pack 2 and Office XP Pro SP 3. According
to the update site there are no critical updates available.

Any time I attempt to open any Access data base, I receive the error
"Microsoft Access has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience." It offers to sent the information
to MS, but doesn't give any useful feedback to resolve the issue.

This occurs whether it is an existing DB or if I try to open a new DB.
If it is an existing DB, I receive the notification that the DB caused
a serious error and asks if I am sure I want to open it.

I know this is not much to go on, but if you let me know what other
into you need to help, I will be glad to provide it.

This is what I get in the error:

Error Signature
AppName: msaccess.exe
AppVer: 10.0.6501.0
ModName: msjet40.dll
ModVer: 4.0.8618.0
OffSet: 0008fcdf

This is a laptop computer, not part of a domain. It is on a home
network, but the error occurs whether connected or not.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Ice Pilot Fan

Oh yeah, Additionally, I have uninstalled Office completely and

Thanks Again

Just wanted to thank all of you who offered me help with this problem,
Oh, that's right, my post was ignored!

Any way, if anyone else runs into this problem, let me tell you how I
resolved the issue. I ran into a problem running another program and
was able to get real useable information about that error. Realized
the issue was with msjet40.dll. I tried using the file in the MS KB
to upgrade the file, and it wouldn't work since I had installed XP SP
2. I decided to reinstall XP SP 2 and it reinstalled msjet40.dll.
Now I can open files in access and in the other program.

I hope this info can help others who may have the same issue.

I doubt your post was ignored. More than likely, no one looked at it who'd
experienced a similar problem. There are enough posts here, that few will
post just to confess "I don't know." I look at a lot of posts, and if I
don't have an answer, very often don't respond.
