Hi,
I sem to have corrupted or have a problem with Microsoft Help to read .chm
files.
I am gettting a crash with the following message:
AppName: hh.exe AppVer: 4.74.9273.0
ModName: itss.dll ModeVer: 4.72.8085.0 Ofdet: 00007227
It could be since I tried to download MS's help compiler or Workshop (html
help compiler) which I have uninstalled since but problems persist.
Any ideas how to fix it?
Tx,

S,
I sem to have corrupted or have a problem with Microsoft Help to read
.chm files. I am gettting a crash with the following message:
AppName: hh.exe AppVer: 4.74.9273.0
ModName: itss.dll ModeVer: 4.72.8085.0 Ofdet: 00007227

I'd recommend using MJ's Help Diagnostics to check that all the help
viewer components are properly installed and registered. In fact, it
looks like one of the components (itss.dll) isn't properly registered
at the moment. You can download MJ's Help Diagnostics from here:

http://helpware.net/downloads/index.htm#MJs

If you continue to have problems, try the following:

1) Upgrade the help viewer components, as you have quite an old
version of HTML Help installed. Service Pack 2 for XP installs the
very latest version, but if you don't want to install that then you
could use Critical Update 811630
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811630) to install a fairly recent
version.

2) Delete or rename the file hh.dat, which you should find in this
hidden subdirectory:

\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\HTML
Help

The hh.dat file stores user-specific information on all the HTML Help
files on your system (favourite topics, search history, etc.), and can
cause the files to misbehave if it has somehow been corrupted. Windows
will create a new version of hh.dat when you succeed in opening a help
file.

3) Empty your Temporary Internet Files directory (in Internet
Explorer, Tools > Internet Options > General tab > Delete Files). A
full TIF directory can cause the help files to misbehave.

4) See the following page for further guidance on how to resolve
XP-specific help problems:
