Microphone Button in Speech Recognition

I'd like to access the data (from a Visual Basic program) that appears in the
Microphone Button window of Vista's Speech Recognition software (e.g.
Listening, Sleeping, etc.). Does anyone know how/if it can be done? For
example, is it kept in the clipboard or otherwise accessable?
