Microdrives, any success in getting them to boot up XPe?

Paul

I have seen in Google XPe Group that there has been a lot of talk about
Microdrives and nobody being able to get them to work.

I am trying to use win PE to copy an image to a 340MB Microdrive, the BIOS
sees my drive fine but when Diskpart goes to select DISK 0, it says that is
not a valid disk and it stops on me.

Also I have noticed that when I had it as a slave in an XPe machine, and
formatted it I was only allowed to make it 125MB though it is a 340MB
Microdrive??? Thoughts?

Cheers!

Paul,

It sounds like the disk is not marked as fixed. You cannot use Diskpart to
create a partition on removable media. Windows supports at most one MBR
partition on removable media.
Can you mark a Microdrive as fixed? I've only seen removable Microdrives.

Hi KM

That seems to be the dilemma, I was wondering if anyone had been able to get
the Microdrive set up as non removable (fixed) media.

Oh well it sure would be nice if IBM or Hitachi would get this set up as a
fixed media.

Cheers

This is very easy
Hopefully some can help me with my earlier post under name David

Here is the answer
Take a bootable Win98 Floppy disk
Make sure your normal hdd is unplugged and leave microdrive plugged into ide
i/face
make sure a copy of bootprep.exe on the same win98 bootdisk
boot from the floppy into dos mode and type bootprep.
it will now pop up with a message
answer yes to replace the boot loader
copy all of the target files to the root directory after you reboot back to
your normal windows xp.
set your bios to make the microdrive the 1st one the system looks at and
whammo it should boot to fba.
