Messenger tcp/ip ports

Matt Hitchcock

Here's a teaser for you all. I have a modem router and a firewall, behind
which is my PC. I'm trying to get Remote Assistance to work and it's
becoming a real headache. Initially I thought it was firewall settings, but
after opening everything right up, it still doesn't work. When my friend at
the other end accepts the request for remote assistance it comes up to say
'Connecting ...' but that's as far as it gets. I think I need to allow some
ports open on my router in order for this to work but the question is ...
which ones .... ?

Does anybody know which IP ports Messenger uses for Remote Assistance???
Answers in an email would be greatly appreciated :)

Greetings Matt,

Remote Assistance uses port 3389 TCP, however, simply just forwarding it on your router will
not allow it to work. In order for it to work properly, your router must support Universal
Plug and Play (UPnP). Check your router manufacturers website to see if there's an update
for UPnP, or simply reply back here with the brand and model of the router and we can quickly
check to see if UPnP is available.
