They are not Microsoft.
Usually they come from someone wanting to sell you Critical Update which
Microsoft gives for free.
These crooks may come from many places.

If you have windows popping up displaying advertisements
then most likely you have adware installed on your computer
(unknowningly and without your consent of course).
Microsoft's antispyware might not catch it (as I have seen
that it does not catch some keyloggers that i have tested
against it) Ive been testing different programs against
microsofts such as adaware, spybot SD, webroot's
spysweeper, pc spydoctor, and a few others.

Anyhow, you might try another anti-adware/anti-spyware
program OR you can try a system restore if you find it
necessary.

Hope this helps.

Jon,
Could you enlighten us on what keyloggers you have seen MSAS miss? What
product found it? How did you conduct your test? Please, share the
knowledge.

Messenger service spam does not usually originate with the users own
machine. In fact, if the user had run Microsoft Antispyware, it would have
encouraged him to turn this service off--and offered to do it for him.

I am getting a Window poping up that is titled Messenger
Service, that reports a number of Faults such as viruses,
possible system crashes and recommends going to a number
of Web sites such as www.Win-Cleaner.com
www.errorfixer.com and www.fixed-pc.com. How do I stop
this?

Regards, Steve
.
Try one of these

Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs>Add/Remove
Windows Components, Scroll down to Windows Messenger,
remove check mark in box, click next
or
Start>Control Panel>Internet Options>Programs>Manage Add-
ons... Click on Windows Messenger, under settings at the
bottom left choose disable, reboot.

The latter is probably you best bet.

Update with windows update and choose all critical
options, use a popup blocker, I got ours with SP2 and set
it to High.

Leave it to advertisers to ruin a good thing, just like
the Macromedia Flash Player. If you can right click on it
and choose properties, put the site or sites in your
restricted sites in Internet options, under security.
