messenger pop-ups

Elizabeth

I am bombarded with "messenger pop-up" spam; the kind
that appears to be a window that comes in whether my
browser or email program is open or not.

How did I get these and how can I stop them? Most of
them include an ad about software to stop the messages.
But, I'm leary of believing them since they are the spam
I'm trying to kill.

Can someone please recommend a reputable program that
will stop this?
