trying to connect to the internet. I have it blocked with my ZoneAlarm Firewall and I can see tha
it is always trying (100's of times) to access the Internet. What can I do to STOP it? I don't wan
it...but you can't uninstall it....XP won't let you! How can I stop it from trying to always connec
to the Internet?

You can try uninstalling it with XP SP1 installed.

Is Messenger actually running? (Check Task Manager) I guess it must be if
you say it's accessing the Internet.

There are also programs out there that are supposed to kill/uninstall it,
and I used to simply rename the Messenger folder.

Greetings Jean,

Do you have Norton Antivirus installed? Recent versions of Norton Antivirus added an
"instant messaging scanning" feature, which can conflict with Messenger and cause this
behavior. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon in the
System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'), click Options,
then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK.

Hi Johnathan..

Norton must have been what was continuing to try to make it connect! I unclicked the
option for Norton AntiVirus to check Windows Messenger and it took care of it

Thank you so much. It was really making me nuts.....I couldn't, for the life of me, figur
out how to make it stop trying to access the Internet. It was showing up when I hi
Ctrl>Alt>Delete as running....now it isn't!

Thanks again
Jea
