Messaging interface

Hallo NG.

When I try to export my contacts as pst I will recieve the message "The
messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem
persists, restart Outlook.". Restarting does not help. Funnily I can
export the single folders of my contacts (contacts + underfolders) into
csv files without problems. A trial of compacting failed. This just
happened recently and I cannot tell wheather or not it is caused by an
update.

I have been trying to use older pst files that I had stored at a time
when exporting contacts to pst file and compacting was surely working.
The do not work neither. So I fear the problem is not in my pst file
which by the way is definately not overload. Just around 200 megs.

I have been searching the internet and NG in order to find a hint and
learnt that other people are receiving this message too. But no one
wrote about an occurance whilst exporting contacts, they all say it
happens during mailing. Yet I have not found any solution, not even here
in the NG.

I have tried as requested in

|Does it work when you try it in Outlook Safe Mode?
|Start-> type; outlook.exe /safe

My answer: NO

|Have you already applied all updates?

My answer: YES

|Tried doing a repair already of Office 2003?

NO, but I will try this too.

Looking forward to soon know the solution to this riddle.

Thanks for helping me!

Next trial:

See

http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-1835978.php

|Close Outlook
|Control Panel
|Mail
|Show Profiles
|Add New Profile
|Use the new profile
|Open outlook
|You will need to recreate your signatures but everything else should
sync from the server

Did not help neither. In the new profile same error message :-(

By the way, I cannot export mail in pst neither. Coming like the whole
pst part is corrupted.

What now?

Don't export. There's no need. First, your Contacts folder is already in a
PST. Second, if you want a copy of them in a second PST, then create the
PST with File>New>Outlook Data File and just right-click and drag the
COntacts folder to that PST. Close Outlook and you have your PST with just
the contacts.

Hallo Brian,

thank you for your reply. Good proposal even though there must be a cause
for this behaviour. What if importing does not work neither?

Then don't import. There's no need. Open the PST in the other Outlook with
FIle>Open>Outlook Data File.
