Message Queuing service started and then stopped

A while back, I was working on a project using Message Queuing. However, when
I tried to continue working on that this week, I ran into some problems.
Somehow the Message Queuing service doesn't work anymore. I tried
reinstalling it, but install will fail on the Message Queue Triggers because
Message Queuing can't be started.

Exact message in pop-up, when selecting Start in Services window:
"The Message Queuing service on Local Computer started and then stopped.
Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the
Performance Logs and Alerts Service."

Event Viewer then has the following error message:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSMQ
Event Category: Kernel
Event ID: 2047
Date: 2005/02/24
Time: 16:30
User: N/A
Computer: COMPAT7
Description:
A connection to the Distributed Transaction Coordinator cannot be
established. Consequently, transactions cannot be supported.

As far as I can tell, the only things that were installed in the mean time
were:
Rational Suite AnalystStudio
Visual Studio.NET

I'm guessing the Visual Studio.NET installation might be the problem, as
Visual Studio 6.0 was installed before this and not uninstalled.
