message pop-ups

This is really getting frustrating! I've posted three
times and none of them show up!!

I'm with Mr. Baughman! I'm sick and tired of the spam
message pop-ups that invade everything!

This morning I posted to the effect and saw a response
from a "Bruce Chambers" which is gone now. What
happened?? Was it wrong info? Probably, because he
suggested downloading and installing XP SP1, which I did.
It didn't work!!

Would someone from MSN please respond with a valid
answer?? That is... if this post shows up! GGRRRR

Greetings --

I've never said that Service Pack 1 would stop messenger service
spam. I *always* recommend installing a firewall. To repeat:

This a type of spam has become quite common over the past few
months, and unintentionally serves as a valid security "alert." It
demonstrates that you haven't been taking sufficient precautions while
connected to the Internet. Your data probably hasn't been compromised
by these specific advertisements, but if you're open to this exploit,
you may well be open to other threats. Install and use a decent,
properly configured firewall. (Disabling the messenger service, as
some people recommend, only hides the symptom, and does nothing to
secure your machine.) And ignoring or just "putting up with" these
messages and the problem they represent is particularly foolish.

Where, in any of that, do you find the words "Service Pack 1?"

These pop-ups are a nightmare from h...... I too wish
someone from Microsoft would reply. They should have
never built this into these programs. Who wants to have
to get rid of 10-20 pop-ups every time they sign on.
MICROSOFT WHERE ARE YOU?

Well, you might try reading any of the hundreds of responses to
the hundreds of queries to this very same question. It gets asked and
answered dozens of times each and every day.
