Message is no longer available on the server

Outlook Express is unable to retrieve the requested message because the
server no longer has the message available.

a.. News servers regularly expire articles as they get older to make space
available for newer articles.
b.. IMAP servers can be accessed by multiple e-mail programs at the same
time. If you are using two programs to access your mail the list of messages
maybe out of date. Use the refresh command to update this list.

I was unable to manually insert "Re:" at beginning of the
subject line for that reply, probably because the subject
line was too long for the web interface.

I am able to do so on shorter subject lines.

Please do not manually put "Re:" on the subject line of a post that you are replying to, it is done automatically when using OE. Or are you trying to confuse the people on the NG?

David, the point was that the "Re:" helps to identify how the poster is reading the NG. It is not something that has to be manually inserted for a response to a post to be posted. The position in the list also shows that it is a response to a previous post. It seems to me that most who use the web reader find it very difficult to return to where they were to see any response to a post.

Well, if one does not read all the words that were
written, then perhaps one might be confused.

No can do _Jan. Web based will not open "Post Reply" or "New Post". Search did not turn up your last post either. Had to look by page for it. A pain in the keister. Switch to OE or another reader, much easier to use. Also links that are posted show up as links that one can click on, not cut and paste.

See for myself what?

Anything taken out of context usually makes no sense.

All the points that you raise are valid in Outlook Express
= apples

All the points that I raise are valid in the web
interface (CDO) = oranges

Apples and oranges are fruit, but they have nothing much
else in common, (OE cf CDO.)

Until you are able to try out the web interface for
yourself, you will not be able to appreciate the
significance of what I wrote.

Did you notice that line two, (_Jan), does not begin
with "Re: " ?

If you did notice, then you did not mention that you
were "confused" by the omission.

Have you also noticed that in some threads, the subject
line of the first reply does not begin with "Re: ", and
that in others, there are multiple instancesof "Re: "? If
you did notice, then you certainly did not inform those
posters.

--

In Outlook Express : YES

On the web interface : NO

Anybody posting their first reply to the original poster
must manually insert "Re:" at the beginning of the subject
line for that reply.

--
|>Please do not manually put "Re:" ...
| Or are you trying to confuse the people on the NG?

I manually insert "Re:" only if it is NOT already at the
beginning of the subject line.

On that occasion, I was unable to do so, because the
subject line was too long, which is what I wrote to David
and also to you.

I do not want:

- bandwidth-hungry attachments or RICH-TEXT-user-formatted
messages

- HTML-user-formatted messages containing malicious
scripts, or WebBugs which spy on people ("WebBugFAQ"
http://www.privacyfoundation.org/resources/webbug.asp )

This is a very hard interface to use. Yes, I did notice
the absence of "Re:" on your post to David, that
indicated to me that you were using the web reader. I
have used the web reader in the past (a few times) it was
hard to use then and now.

How can I mark this group of posts, and others, to watch
so that any responses are always shown first?

If anyone outside of Microsoft knows the answer, then it
would have to be David Candy.

Jan

More than two hours for me, when the other poster is in
the same time-zone in my country.

Jan

J

_Jan

Eleven hours for other posts to appear in a particular
thread in which I was replying, the other day.

Although that was because the servers were not serving,
which is what started all these related threads in which
David was "slash-dotted".
