Message box before windows welcome

Hi
XP Home SP2
I'm getting a modal message box with only OK as an option popping up
immediately before the blue XP welcome screen! it contains a few odd
characters and nothing else!

I have looked at all the auto run option but can not find what is launching
this message windows continues to load OK after.

the PC did have an issue with file associations that I fixed i.e nothing
would run, I have scanned the computer with AV and Spybot but all is clear!


Any Ideas?

Try Autoruns from the new Windows SysInternals (formerly Sysinternals) site:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Autoruns.mspx
This will show all apps/etc. that load/run when you first boot and
selectively allow you to stop any that you don't want.

Note: To get additional details on an item in the list you may need to
highlight the item (right click) and use the Google option to get the
details, especially useful for the more obscure items in the list.
