message "16 bit Windows Substem" error message.

When trying to install, or reinstall, programs since I downloaded and
installed SP2, I get the message:
"16 bit Windows Subsystem. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system
file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.
Choose 'close' to terminate the application."

Any advice???

Completing the first part of the instructions, I got the error msg.: "SHELL>DLL missing". The second part of the instructions were very confusing to me (a neophite).

When I completed part one of the instructions, I got an error msg. "SHELL.DLL missing". The second part of the instructions is a little confusing to me (a neophite).

ALL IS WELL!! I found SHELL.DLL in "System" and copied it into System32. So
the advice in the first part of the instructions DID work!
