Mesh PC and Activation after new Motherboard fitted

Motherboard failed so it was replaced with a Foxconn board. When PC restarted
it informed me that XP had to be re-activated - as expected. Then activation
fails and the message tells me that I am subject to a pirate copy of XP. How
can this be - it's a full XP Home install disk - unbranded - with the CD Key
on a sticker on the case. Activation tells me that the key is false and fake?
Anyone got any ideas?

Activate by phone. MS has disabled activation over the internet for the
large OEMs......

Hey - am just new to this blog page....
I've been there and done that....little different circumstances.
It would appear you are a victim of piroted software.... whomever put your
new board in probabley put in a copy of XP - then when your XP updated the
"legit check control" found out....and well good luck. I tried for several
weeks to get my "key code" to work - wrote a gazillion letters to microsoft
support etc etc etc........sure it's the right key code probabley but several
copies have been made of your origianl software and it works only on
one...speak to the guy who reparied your pc then........(if he is till in
town) Like I did, you may end up buying the Windows advantage kit and your
problem will be solved.

What "blog page"? This is not a blog or a user forum; it is a web interface
to Usenet newsgroups. Here's information about that:

Since you are using the web interface, you may not realize that this is
really a newsgroup. You will get far more out of this resource if you learn
to use a newsreader. There are many good newsreaders for Windows, but you
can use Outlook Express since you already have it. Here are some links to
information about newsgroups:

There is also nothing to indicate that the OP has pirated software. His
question has already been answered. He has a generic OEM version that will
need to be activated by phone.

Your original installation may have been BIOS locked to the Mesh board, in
which case, you have violated the OEM rules whereby an OEM installation
stays with the original board and is not transferable.

That's not an OEM rule, that's a MESH rule.......

Thanks for the response guys - Yes, Malke you are right - there was never any
question about piracy - I'm still using the original hard drive and
installation of XP. I phoned and got activated.
