Memory

Hi All,

I recently purchased some SDram 512mb Memory and inserted it with my other
chip on my home PC. I then went to start --> run --> cmd and typed in mem.
The results were exaclty the same before i inserted the new memory chip.

Does anyone know what is wrong, can anyone give me a sight where i am able
to check what type of Memory is in my machine - before i installed the new
chip.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards.

Highlight and right click 'My Computer'. Select properties. The window

Go to www.crucial.com .

There is a facility to run a check on your computer which will tell you
about the type of memory installed, and what you would need to upgrade.

Run it on your other machine too for the same info..

Tried your link. Interesting.

What's wrong with removing the memory card and studying what's written
on it. Just needs a little care.

It is absolutely essential that any new RAM module(s) be fully
compatible with both the motherboard and/or any other RAM module(s)
already in the system. Additionally, there are sometimes jumper
switches on older motherboards that need to be reset for new RAM
configurations. Consult your motherboard's manual or the
manufacturer's web site for specific instructions and compatibility
requirements.

If you cannot lay your hands upon the computer's manual and the
manufacturer doesn't provide a support web site, you can use these
utilities to help determine the correct type of RAM needed:

SiSoft's Sandra

Belarc Advisor

Also, Crucial Memory's web site (www.crucial.com) has a database to
help to find the right RAM for your specific make and model computer
and/or motherboard. (Incidentally, Crucial is the only company from
which I ever buy RAM. I've never been disappointed.)
