Good specs, bad vendor. Generic brand memory is a crap shot--it may
or may not work with your motherboard. Stick with Corsair or Kingston
for the best. Samsung, Apacer, or Geil are okay. I have ordered from
www.crucial.com --excellent service and quality products. Be careful.
This may be true. But I get a kick how people kick around ideas on these
NG's with no consideration for 'bucks'. Hell yes, if we were all
millionaires, why not get the 'best'? Heck, computer parts grow on trees
I'm told...much like money does. I had this nightmare last night about a
world where people had to have mortgages just to have a home to live in.
Wow...what a hell that was; glad it was just a dream!!!
All grins aside, I've had good success with OEM discount memory
boards...though it is true, one needs to check on the mobo specs. ABit for
instance, is really touchy...you'll probably need to go with the higher
quality mem sticks on ABit boards...that cost about 30% more. If you go to
a local shop, I'd wager that unless you ask for specific ram boards, he'd
sell you the discount stuff because he knows from experience, it works ok
90% of the time.
Of course, if you're going to use oscilloscopes to measure the performance
of your ram, you'll probably see a noticeably increased amplitude on some
sine wave that measures the quality boards against the batch stuff. But
only really bored people who have given up on sex really go to such
lengths...
[this is not personal; actually the advice given was good. It's just that
I've got a pet peeve how no one seems to consider costs on these
NG's...which makes everyone sound rich with nothing else to do except spend
beau coup bucks to play games. Since I 'work and struggle'...and I hate
it...well, for the sake of reality and all you see; here's to all that sex
someone else is enjoying, hehe]
