Memory usage in XP - help!

Hi,
I have the following problem/question:
When copying files (on local computer) or download/upload via FTP my
Windows XP starts to use more and more memory for copied file. I have
512 MB RAM, but if the file is big enough finally I get 10-20 MB RAM
free or less (which is not displayed by Task Manager - I don't know
why, but I can see that using Tweak XP). The annoying problem
connected with that is, that when in this situation I want to use
other applications (previously opened, but lets say minimized), I get
disk operations because the application has been already pushed into
swap to make more space in the memory for the copied file! Well, what
I want is that this don't happen :) I mean - my question is: how do I
limit memory usage for this kind of operations (copying)? OR how can I
ensure, that selected application is never pushed into swap from
memory?

Thanks in advance.

XP will try to find some use for all of RAM at all times, and to
transfer things to page file if some more important use arises. If you
had those applications open, not minimised, they would be seen as of
higher importance than the space needed by copy: if you have them
inactive and minimised they are fair candidates to be pushed to page
file.

ANd do not give credence to things that purport to manage or optimise
memory (such as the one in Tweak XP) they do not improve real matters,
and usually make things worse.

If it is so, then is there a solution for me? Can I force XP to magane
memory like I want?
