Memory Stick issues with Windows XP

Any help greatly appreciated.

Problem: using a ton of different memory sticks (of varying manufacturers)
at a school I am faced with having to always manually set the driveletter
every time I am using a new stick (with Diskmanagement) because it defaults
to a shared drive (in this case F:). This workaround does work for each
session, but is a pain in the neck for people not so adept at computers.

Just wondering if there is any way to permanently assign a common drive
letter that will be recognised by all the different memory sticks?

I've written a small service for exactely that purpose,
the USB drive letter manager - USBDLM:
http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbdlm_e.html

It remounts a just connected drive to a configured letter
if Windows assigned the first free letter.

The current version can remount to other letters only.
If you want I can send you a test version which can mount
to NTFS folders too.

For a quick manual remount I've written a commandline tool:
ReMount.
remount f: x:
would remount drive f to letter x. It does the same as the
disk management if you assign a new letter.

Thanks a lot for that Uwe!

Haven't had the time to try it out on more than one computer yet, but so far
it seems to work out brilliantly for our purposes with the USB sticks. Thus,
solving both the problem of the cumbersome workaround (esp. for non-IT savvy
teachers) and, more importantly, waste of time. Will try it out some more and
let you know if I encounter any difficulties.

Thanks a million,

Thomas
