Memory manufacturers overclocks DDR2 to over 1.2Ghz

Looks like memory makers in Computex are trying to one-up each other by
coming out with the fastest DDR2 module. The current standard stuff is
running at 667Mhz. These guys are going upto 1.20Ghz/CAS4 or 1.25Ghz/CAS5.

I'm pretty sure that 800Mhz DDR2 is a standard as well. That said, if the
processors start supporting much faster ram, then it will be a big plus.

It will be a big plus only on the AMD processors as they can start
taking advantage of the faster memory right away without having to wait
for much more than a BIOS update. The Intel processors will be limited
by their FSB. It's likely that the current 1300Mhz FSB of Conroe is
already at the limit with a pair of DDR2-666 DIMMs. Conroe will have to
wait for a new chipset respin, and an FSB increase. Of course with
Conroe's big cache advantage, AMD would need the direct memory access
advantage.
