Hi, Can some one tell me what MEMORY.DMP FILE IS PLEASE.
I always defragment my drive on a regular basis and today
I have noticed this file that keeps coming up as
defragmented.
I use Norton utilities speed disk and after I defrag I'm
always left with $MFT which is normal but now I get this
MEMORY.DMP, and I can't find what it relates
to!.........so if any one knows I'd appreciate it, Thanks.

Hi,

It's the contents of the system ram that were "dumped" into a file when the
system failed and auto-rebooted. This file is useful for debugging (should
you wish to), otherwise it can be deleted.

Add - it is very unlikely to be of value to you unless you are working
with the author of something, with the source and compilation material.
So I suggest you turn this off: in Control Panel - System - Advanced,
click Settings in the Startup and Recovery section. There change the
'write debugging information' to (none), or possibly to 'small dump' if
you are getting errors that you wish to report on to Microsoft. This is
useful to them, though you will not get any direct response, and I'd
suggest doing it if you have a broadband or other 'always on'
connection. And in the Errors button, select either 'disable error
reporting', or enable but for windows only
..
