Memory could not be "read"

Hello,
On a few programs on my computer when I try and start them
up it comes up with an error message saying:
The instruction at '<address>' referenced memory at
'<address>'. The memory could not be "read".
Click OK to terminate the program.

Does anyone know how to ix this problem?

I'm running Windows XP Home SP1 on a HP Laptop.

Cheers

If it happens in a variety of programs it is almost certainly a RAM
hardware problem. Get Memtest86 from www.memtest86.com run to make its
boot floppy, boot that and let it run overnight.
