memo field not accepting more than 1,910 characters

I have a database with front end and back end. The backend contains many
tables with just two fields one of which is a memo field the other a text
field. The memo fields will not accept text of more than 1910 characters. If
i try to add one more character i get the message "The search key was not
found in any record". After that the table becomes unusable and must be
re-created. When I create a new database containing one table with an
identical structure (I think!) to my problem tables, there is no problem.
Anybody come across this before?

Be sure that you have all the Microsoft Office upgrades installed;
I've seen this bug, and I believe that the service packs fix it.

Check http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/corruptmdbs.htm for suggestions
for prevention and cure of such corruption.
