Mediamax hard drive?

Hi...

I just acquired what appears to be a brand-x hard drive: Mediamax. Has
anyone ever heard of this? Google turns up nothing except software with the
same name.

Never heard of them, but a google search suggests it is a re-badged Seagate.
A MediaMax 500GB has serial number ST3500630AS, which is a seagate drive!

A pretty decent one too, if my memory of model numbers hasn't failed me.

Couldn't comment on Seagate, but the above info was tough to dig out! I
suspect they are rebadged for complete PC systems and no sold individually
(only in PCs). Perhaps the OP got the drive out of a PC, or someone removed
it and sold/gave it to him, rather than OEM or retail. Perhaps it was
stolen, a break-in perhaps - who can say!! He did use the word 'acquired',
which always sounds dubious to me. Or rather I intend it to mean dubious
when I say it! I'll shut up now!

I "acquired" this 180GB drive on eBay at a very good price...I just didn't
want to admit it!

I booted up with a Western Digital install disk, and the drive was not
recognized.

So I tried a Seagate disk, and it was recognized. So I managed to format it
and it's working fine.

Please do not top-post. Your answer belongs after (or intermixed
with) the quoted material to which you reply, after snipping all
irrelevant material. See the following links:

Never heard of them either. You have a picture? Various manufactures
have different shapes on their hard drives. Yes, essentially it's a
rectangle, but sometimes the corners are rounded in a particular
fashion, or a decorative ridge on the top plate. It's almost certainly
a rebranded drive.

OK, how's this?

I don't like jumping through hoops.

Meaningless, without quotes. See below:

Check out eBay listing # 230137933075...I think it's a scam.

The picture is without the cover, not as easy to recognize. Kinda
funny how they advertise a hard drive as a "major brand."

The picture looks western digital-ish. But I'm not real sure.
