media player problems

Joanie

Suddenly my WMP 11 won't play DVD's videos, it will play audio disks, is it
possible to uninstall WMP 11, & reinstall it. I keep reading about codecs
but it looks very involved and I am worried that I will do something wrong.
Any advice appreciated.
Joanie.

This link has a download for WMP 11 & on it's top bar click on Codecs
for what you need. If you happen to download a codec that is not
necessary your PC will either tell you not to or it will just ignore
it. I had a similar problem with WMP 11 yesterday & I re-installed it
(I have it saved) and re-installed codecs from my previous "saved"
bunch.
Good luck, Joanie.

Hi Sandy, thank you for helping me but I am a little confused. Do you mean
that I should uninstall WMP from add/remove, then click on the download tab
at the site you sent the link for?. or do I just keep WMP and click on the
codecs tab...the big redish one at the top.
thanks again,
Joanie.

But then, your something ELSE, chum. Ain't you just? I can read YOUR
input, clever guy!! NOT!

Not sure what your problem is. I am warning the user against
downloading from that site. It gives a link to WMP11 from an unknown
site rather than from the source at Microsoft...never a good idea, as
you should realize. You tell Joan to click the codecs link which brings
her to 2 pages full of links....how is she supposed to know what to
select?

Your comment: "If you happen to download a codec that is not necessary
your PC will either tell you not to or it will just ignore" is a recipe
for killing WMP functionality, and is simply untrue. Codecs that will
break WMP will install with no problem....I suggest you read a little
before making your comments.

The WMP Mini-FAQ is written by one of the long-time developers of
WMP...read his warnings about installing codec packs willy-nilly:

I am already helping Joan in her thread on this subject at the aumha
forums online (http://aumha.net). I'm not going to duplicate it in this
thread.

Not "living up" to anything...I'm trying to help Joan with her computer
problem, and avoid creating more problems in the process. You appear
focused on calling people names and responding like a spoiled child. So
helpful....I'm sure you learn a lot that way.
