Media player 11 distortion on playback

Does anyone hear distortion when playing music in mp11? I installed RC1 and
hear a little distortion, almost like static clicking noises, or noise
similar to the old LP records (gosh i'm old). The noise wasn't there
previously in XP Home sp2, and I was using mp11. I'm burning some xmas
music, and the sound seems fine when I play it elsewhere.

Any ideas? Codecs?

I had that issue with Beta 2, it was mostly cured in RC1. Even with RC2, my
audio is flaky as hell. Usually one time running Media Player and the sound
is shot until a reboot (no static, just no sound whatsoever).

It doesn't look like it's a problem w/ mp11. I hear the same pops and
crackles in Real player. So, something w/ the sound settingsl?

I agree -- I have the problem in Windows Media Center after a little while
of playback:

Hardware/SW:
-X64 Vista
-Intel HD Audio sound
-Athlon x2 4200 processor
-1 GB RAM (dual-channel 512MB x 2)
-Nvidia 6200LE card
-Asus M2N32-SLI-DELUXE Wireless Edition motherboard

The sound was fine, fantastic in fact, in XP using mp11. I have some nice
klipsh speakers that have amazing sound... and bec of that the popping noises
stand out more. So why might the sound be a problem now in Vista when it
worked fine in XP?

Is there a way to download these sound drivers? Would that help? Where
could I find them?

Go to the website of the sound card or sound chip (like Realtek) if on the
mobo and check to see what they have for drivers for Vista.

Thanks John,,, this helped tremendously! I went this exact site and
downloaded vista drivers... over 77mb worth unzipped.

The sound is much, much better everywhere. I don't hear the pops and clicks
like i used to (well, did hear a couple,, but i heard those pre-Vista on xp).
The sound is much richer and cleaner.

The only problem was on the reboot... took forever to shutdown,, and when it
finally did I got a blue screen dump briefly.. something about a driver.. but
it went on to startup fine.

Thanks again John and other posters.. you all helped... craig.
