media Plaeyr problem

In Vista I am having a problem playing DVD's in Media Player.

Video plays just fine but I get no sound at all.

However...Power DVD plays the DVD's just fine. No problems at all
with video or sound. (Even though Vista throws up a warning about
compatability issues with Power DVD)

got almost the same problem over here with opening ripped dvd files
from hard disk
I just get cracks for sound but the video is perfect
sound is working fine for every other media format and/or player

I am also having this problem with Media Player. Windows system sounds play
fine, Media Player plays no sound at all. RealPlayer 10 spontaneous quits,
iTunes 7.0.1 is complete crap and iTunes 6 refuses to install. Haven't tried
PowerDVD yet.
Have tried both onboard (RealTek?) sound and a Creative Labs SoundBlaster
Live! PCI, had no sound at all from the onboard (except electrical system
noise), installed SoundBlaster and have OS beep-chime-trumpets etc. but no
sound from any programs so-far.

RealPlayer plays DVD no sound update all drivers SOUNDMAX MSFT gonna have to
do something about this cause there are just way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to many
messy drivers out there and we have 300 million computers to update to vista.
Urge doesn't play sound and DVD video is horrific lines everywhere.
Quicktime works ok, Media player no sound no DVD menus Itunes 7.2.02 works
ok, but that's quicktime so i guess it should. Darn gateway
