Media Centre Extender in Vista

What is the status of using Media Center Extenders in Vista, I tried in bothe
Beta 1 and RC1 and each time Vista recognised the Extender but hang on
configuring. Same problem I find on every newsgroup. Has this been fixed in
the full release or has it been forgotten. I noticed in some of the posts on
this site people telling you to share music under Media Player but obviously
that is not what is wanted. What we want is for Media Center Extenders to
work otherwise ther is no point in upgrading to Vista.

Media center extender works great here with the Xbox 360 on the RTM - what
hardware are you using?

I haven't tried RTM with MCE extender as when I installed MCE from fresh my
TV card kept giving message no Video Decoder available, never tried for long
as I wanted to record some stuff so went back to MCE2005, maybe I'll try an
upgrade to RTM now still not sure about TV card though...

Hardware
Intel 930
945G chipset
2GB Ram
Nvidia 7300GS
Hauppauge WinTV Nova -T-500 (dual DVB-T)

Only the Xbox 360 works as an extender with Vista. V1 extenders
(Linksys, HP, and the original Xbox) do not work and there will not
be upgrades.

There's an article posted on Windows Connected,
http://windowsconnected.com/forums/thread/4883.aspx, Media Center Extender
Chat 8-02-2006 that suggests, "Jenelle [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: I realize that legacy extenders won't be supported by Vista. What
alternatives will us early adopters have for this old extenders?
A: When we get closer to the Windows Vista release we will announce a
program to make sure that early adopters who purchased a v1 Media Center
Extender (from Linksys or HP) are accommodated."

There's noise around a Linksys device from KiSS Technologies on
Hardware.info,
http://www.hardware.info/en-US/news/ym2cmJqRwpya/Linksys_announces_network_ready_DiVXDVD_player/,
suggesting the DP1600 will be the first v2 extender with the Pika chip.

However, to date, there doesn't seem to be any official
announcements for either the suggested program, the Linksys device, or any
other Pika device. Timing is everything, and MCX timing right now seems to
be sucking eggs.
