MDE Editing

I have only been using access 2003 for a few months now. All of the programs
that I use were already in place when I started this job and they are are
mde. I've been trying to read about mde and I'm not sure I understand it.
According to what I understand you cannont edit an mde file. However, the
person who used to work in my office says you can edit it, but it can only be
edited in code. So, how do I get to the code? Can I copy it into a new
database so I can make some editing changes on the reports? Additionally, I
have been told that the original files were shredded so I can't get those
either. Can an mde be converted back to access? Thanks and hope this makes
sense.

An MDB contains 2 copies of the code:
- a text version (this is what you read and edit),
- a complied version (this is what executes.)

An MDE contains on the compiled version. Therefore it is not possible to
read or edit the code in an MDE. Additionally, the Design button is greyed
out for forms and reports in an MDE, so you cannot modify them.

With professional help, it is possible to create an MDB out of an MDB, e.g.:
