MDE 2003/2002

I am working in A2003. The default file format is A2000.
Some users of my products work in A2000 while others are in A2003. I
therefore need to create MDE in both versions.

For A2003 this is not a problem. I convert the MDB to 2003 and create MDE.
For A2000 however, I cannot create the MDB unless I convert to A2003, in
which case the users on A2000 cannot open the MDE.

I have my old Office 2000 package and am considering installing both
Versions of Access so that I can create MDE in A2000. Should I expect any
problems with both versions running?(Wndows XP Pro SP2)

My current solution is to create the MDE on the user's PC, or find a PC with
A2000 installed. Should I be content with this? Is ther another way?

Either way will be fine.

You can install both versions of Access on your PC, provided you do a custom
install.

If you have been editing with A2003, you will find it worthwhile to
decompile with A2000 before you try to create the MDE. Forcing the discard
of the binary from the file seems to help.

Occassionally you can still find a weird situation that is resolved only if
you create the MDE on the client's machine. I don't understand the
specifics: the problem can arise even if both machines have the same service
packs for Office 2000 and JET 4, so presumably there are some other issues
somewhere.
