Hello,

if i install the MDAC-Patch for Windows XP "Buffer
Overrun in MDAC Function Could Allow Code Execution
(832483)" with the installation-
packet "GER_Q832483_MDAC_x86.EXE" the following error
occurred.

"An error occurred while setup was trying to verify the
version of Microsoft Data Access Components currently
installed on the machine.
Either the version currently installed does not match the
version of this hofix package, or setup was unable to
determine the version currently installed."

The current version of MDAC on the XP-PC is "MDAC 2.7
SP1".
The current version was determined by the Microsoft
Component Checker 2.0.

after the installation of MDAC 2.7 Service Pack 1 Refresh
i have the same problem.
It's not possible, to install the hotfix for mdac.

Do you habe another idea?

the content of dahotfix.log is in my first post.

In the registry of the problem-pc the version of the mdac
is 2.61 . But the Microsoft Componet Checker 2.0 says,
the version of mdac is 2.7 SP1. If i change the registry-
entrys to the mdac-version 2.71 its possible to install
the mdac-hotfix. but after the hotfix-installation excel
have start-errors (odbc-driver...).

Run this command and see if it helps:

regsvr32.exe "%ProgramFiles%\Common Files\System\Ole DB\oledb32.dll"


If it did not, is it an option to install MDAC 2.8 and see if that helps?

The installation of MDAC 2.8 resluts in an error message,
that the installation is not complete.

I think the installation of the programm, that installs
MDAC 2.61 is not OK. So i let it be.
