Maximum Size of System Path

Does anyone know how to tweak the maximum size of the
System Path. It appears to be 1024 characters. However,
you can add as many characters as you want into the
registry, but it appears all software limits itself into
looking at the first 1024 characters of the path. If the
System Path is 1024 characters, then the User Path is
precluded as well.

The limit can be found by typing in the Environment
Variable window, under System. And in several other
locations.

That appears to be the design limit

Check out kb 169888 where a bug was fixed in NT 4 to correct the limit to
1023
