Maximum length of path

Using XP Home and Easy CD Creator 5, I get the following message when
attempting to burn a CDR.

*One or more paths in this CD project has exceeded the maximum length
allowed by the current file system.
You may continue to burn this CD, but the files in these paths may not
be readable.*

Is there a maximum number of nested folders in XP?

The folder in question had 600 sub folders containing some 4,000
files,4 layers deep.

The path length for a CDR is different than the path length for Windows XP
(256 characters). They each use their own file system. Sorry that I can not
tell you the path length for the CD's, but I do know that it is a good deal
less.
