Maximum Files in a W2000 Directory

Is there any documentation on what the limit is on the
number of files in a directory with W2000? What happens
when this limit is exceeded?

This is per volume. If you go past this, you could see volume corruption or
the inability to access files.

Hi, Jeff.

Just to point out a couple of points, as it says in the URL that Britten
gave you:

1. The limits are per volume, not per directory or folder or per HD.

2. The limits depend on FILE system (FAT vs. NTFS), not on OS (DOS or
Win9x/ME or Win2K/XP).

And, third - CAN you exceed the limits, however large they may be. If the
limit is X entries, when you try to save file X+1, won't it just say "disk
full", or some such error message?
