max # of fields in import specs

Hey all,

I'm trying to edit my import specs and for some reason it will not let me
add any more fields(rows). it doesn't give me an error. it just doesn't
capture it when i save it. is there a maximum number of fields that can be
imported from a text file using import specs? right now i have 132 fields.

TIA
Ted

i'm not sure if its not saving the new fields bc of size restrictions. it
appears it just won't let me make changes to the import spec. does anyone
know why i wouldn't be able to make chages? i tried saving it to another
name and making changes and it still won't let me save it.

Hi Ted,

What version and service pack of Access (or Office) are you using?

Conceivably this could be caused by your defining a record wider than
the import routine can handle. How many characters total are there in
your 132 fields?

Hi John,

I'm using Access 2000 SR-1.

the record contains 1207 characters and its fixed length. we never had
problems w the import before. the import spec was created in Access 97, we
just recently migrated to 2000. could that have something to do with it?

Thanks
Ted

Many people here feel that migrating from Access 97 to Access 2000 the
reverse of an improvement. The only version that's at least as good as
97 is 2003 (2007 is still too new to tell).

I seem to remember that the original Access 2000 had lots of problems,
including some with import/export specs. Don't waste time
troubleshooting this (or any other Access 2000) problem unless Office
2000 Service Pack 2 or later has been installed.

i couldn't agree more with Access 2000 being the reverse of an improvement.
its horrible. crashes all the time and is very buggy.

this is killing me. i'm going to try a few more things but for at least the
next few
months we will be on Office 2000 and i need to get this import spec fixed.

thanks for ur input John
