Master Document - Sub documents - Maintaining Styles

S

simon.gauntlett

Using Word 2007 (but in compatibility mode *.doc) I have a large
document which is a Master Document and several Sub Documents.

While editing the Master Document I have changed some of the styles
for Heading 1, Heading 2 etc and all was well until I opened one of
the sub-documents separately and they all the formatting was wrong due
to the style changes.

I guess I have changed the style associated with the master document
and sub documents when opened within, but not the Normal template
which defaults when the sub-documents are opened individually.

Is there an easy way to copy the styles from the Master Document into
the sub-documents?

Thanks

You can use the macros organizer (Developer tab - which you will need to add
if you have not already done so) Macros button > Organizer to copy styles.

Do note that Master documents are notoriously unstable and working in
compatibility mode is not going to help -

I would recommend you to combine these documents before you lose them.
