Mapping LPT1 port to network printer

I have successfully mapped the LPT1 port to a network printer using the Net
Use command (persistent:yes) and it works great for me. My users, however,
don't have local administrative rights and it doesn't work for them. Is
there a way to map map that printer so that it's mapped for all users,
regardless of their local permissions, or is there a way to do this without
making them an administrator?

Thank you,

This will only work *IF* the printer was actually using a Print Server such as a HP
JetDirect.

The OP doesnt give clear explanation of his setup. I would assume that a
network printer is a printer either connected to a print server or has one
builtin such as the jet direct. A shared printer I would assume is one that
is locally attached to a PC.

If the printer is shared from another pc simply use the add printer wizard
to add a network printer. If it a network printer (a printer with an IP
address) take biggles directions.

If this doesnt help give us some more details on your setup.

Mind if I ask why this is required, rather than simply using a network
printer, which users already have the right to add?

If users need to print from a DOS app, this might be the way to go...

I'm so sorry I forgot this one little important fact. I'm trying to print
from a DOS based program that has to use LPT1. I wish it were this easy.

Are you using AD, or is this a workgroup?
I think you could use a startup script to map the drive (runs outside of the
logged-in user's context)
