Mapped network drives

I have a system with Windows XP Professional OS installed. I have couple of
mapped drives in it over the network. The problem starts when I leave the
system idle for sometime or I restart the system. The mapped drives gets
disabled with no redcross, but as soon as I double click on the drives they
get activated again. Why is this so? I have also unchecked the power
management options for the NIC, but still the problem persists.

Can anyone suggest a solution for this problem.

What is the problem? You write that the drives get
re-activated the moment you open them, hence the
time-out you observe does not impair functionality
in any way.
