MAPI error

Hi, one of my programs (MYOB) is trying to send emails out via my email
client (Windows Mail) but it shows an error:

"An email session could not be started. Please check your MAPI installation"

I have checked with MYOB and they say this is an email client issue, not
anything to do with them.

But I'm not sure what this means. Are there any settings I can edit in order
to make this work?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Cheers

Two possibilities.
1. MYOB is not fully Vista compatible, or
2. Your Windows Mail doesn't have all of its defaults.
To correct this problem, go to Default Programs, which you
can reach either from the Start menu or the Control Panel,
then click the first item: "Set your default programs."
After a few seconds a list of programs comes up.
Click on Windows Mail. If all is well, it will respond
"This program has all its defaults."
If it reports less than all (3) of its defaults, fix it by selecting
the option indicated by the first green arrow.

Hi Gary, thankyou very much for your quick and informative reponse.

1. They say that it is Vista compatible. I was using v16 which was Vista
compatible and now just upgraded to v17 which is when I start getting the
errors - perhaps this new version is not compatible for some reason...

2. Checked this, all is good - "This program has all its defaults."

MYOB may require a Full MAPI client. WinMail is, I believe, just a Simple
MAPI client. Check with MYOB. (Outlook is a Fill MAPI client, Outlook
Express was not.

i have been using MYOBv13 on vista for a few months now sending receipts
and invoices out through windows mail, then i got a MAPI error, i have
just copied the back up file across to my XP computer with MS Office XP
and I got the same error, which lead me to believe it was the file as
the settings could not have changed in MYOB on both computers & they
were both using different operating and mail systems. I created a new
test file & invoice and tried sending and it worked. :D

I am not sure if I am going to be able to fix the old file
through?
Outlook is the usual MAPI provider used with Vista, so if you don't
have Outlook installed, you're likely to have trouble with anything
that requires MAPI. Versions 2003 and more recent of Outlook
run well under Vista; versions 2000 and 2002 run under Vista, but
with some problems.

See here for a group of extra-cost software packages, some of which
include Outlook:

Windows Mail is just a Simple MAPI client. If your application requires a
Full MAPI client then you need a program like Outlook. However, Outlook XP
will not remember passwords on Vista.
