Manual Updates?

Is there a way to get manual definition updates anwhere inside Windows
Defender?

I saw a few posts saying Microsoft Update will have them. If this is the
way to get manual updates, I think there needs to at least be a link within
Windows Defender to get to Microsoft Update.

I know the goal is to get everything integrated, but the manual update
option needs to be there just in case.

Yes there is! Go to Help menu (the down arrow to the right of the Question
mark in a blue circle). Click "About Windows Defender" and you'll see a
"Check for Updates"

Users shouldnt have to use this very often since Defender seems to remind
you if it hasnt been updated in x amount of days (when I installed, it
informed me that updates were 20 days old) plus, by default, before a
scheduled scan is run Defender checks for updates. (You can change/view this
setting in "Tools" - "General Settings"

I have tried the manual update my self but the application came back with no
updates available at this time but if I use Micsrosoft Updates it finds the
updates. I am not sure if this is a proxy situation where Window's Defender
does not know about the proxy and Micsrosoft Updates does (since it is using
IE).
