Manual delete of passwords in IE

R

rwrede

A while back I posted a problem I was having not being able to delete
passwords in IE>Tools>Internet Options>Content>Auto Complete>Remove
passwords. (something about a corrupt file) and a fellow gave me the
registry location of that file. Like an idiot I forgot to save that in my
favorites. Does anyone know that registry string?

First, if I couldn't use Auto Complete Remove, I'd run SFC pointing to the
install files of whatever service pack you didn't say you had on the OS you
didn't name. (Windows XP perhaps SP something perhaps).

Instructions for doing this are here. That way SFC doesn't pull files by
default from a CD that went gold August 24, 2001 with two service packs now
added one in November 2002 and one in August 2004.

This points System File Checker to Service Pack Install files.

Second, as to the registry key where the passwords will be encrypted.

You may want to consider a utility like Nirsoft's PSPV.
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/pspv.html
The password is stored at the SPW key (which stands for Saved PassWords).
The location is here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IntelliForms\SPW

In the right hand pane of the SPW key you will see all your saved
AutoComplete controlled passwords. However, you won't recognize them because
they are encrypted as you can see, looking something like this:

"7*J9#QR+U,?@6?Q"
"#7KT?3U[J:N+CBA"

Hi rwrede :)

Can't find the thread you refer to, but, you might try the following and see
if it helps:

To clear all passwords:

Tools> Internet Options>Content>Autocomplete.
Click "Clear Passwords" to clear passwords.
6. Click OK to the confirmation.
7. Close all dialog boxes.
The actual information is stored in a protected portion of the registry
under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Protected Storage System
Provider\[SID of the user]\Data. However, a user can't view the information
(although as an administrator, you can change the ACL via regedt32.exe to
have a look).

or…

To clear only one password:

Go to Control Panel> User Accounts> [username]> Manage my network passwords.
Delete the password you no longer want

or….

Go ton Start>Run> type in "control userpasswords2" , then hit Enter
Go to Advanced tab>Manage Passwords Button.
Add or Remove what you want.
Then Close. Start>Run> type in "control userpasswords2" , then hit Enter
Go to Advanced tab>Manage Passwords Button.
Add or Remove what you want.
Then Close.

also…

Protected Storage PassView

lets you delete selected username/password combos.

Hope this helps :)
