mangal font not working

at first mangal font wasnt working...and when i opened the "mangal.ttf" file
in fonts folder in control panel, it showed up with square boxes..(means that
font isnt installed)
and when i installed it from my windows disk, it was of no use since it
showed up english instead of hindi.
however, websites based on this font work fine..its the word editors like
open office and ms office where the font doesnt work..what could be the
problem and solution???

tried it..no use...only thing is that the square boxes hav turned into
english alphabets...instead of the expected hindi.
