I think I've tried about every codec utility out there, but I've not found a
good way to see which codecs are installed and what versions are being used
by what players. For example, I have about 4 different DivX codecs, and a
bunch of MP3 codecs. Some come with nice interfaces, some do not.
Windows Media Player and WinAmp both play media files differently. WinAmp
suddenly isn't playing my audio files correctly, and the colors are screwed
up on most video files due to a codec misconfiguration. WinAmp suggests
installing ANOTHER codec (a filter) to correct the problem.
So is there some sort of DLL viewer or Codec viewer/installer/uninstaller to
see what's going on? Most codecs do not show up in the install/uninstall
software control panel. True DLL hell at its worst. I had to do a clean
Windows install on my laptop just to play regular commercial DVD's.
