Hey
I am running Win Xp SP2 and tried to install Windows Defender when Norton
alerted me that MsiExec.exe is a suspicious srcipt, windows script host shell
object: Run. I downloaded it straight from the Microsoft website. Is there
any way I can get to install this program with out having the same issue. How
can I find out now if I have spyware or malware on my PC.

Hello Indiana,

I've seen a handful of users that need to disable real-time protection by
their antivirus application in order to get the program installed. (Stop all
programs that are open in the bottom taskbar) etc. etc.. This may be worth
trying in your cªse.

I'd recommend re-downloading WD, and saving to a known location--like the
desktop.
After the download is complete, disable real-time protection by your
antivirus for long enough to do the installation. please disable or turn off
as much other software that always runs as you can--real time antivirus
scanning, any other antispyware software, (Stop all programs that are open in
the bottom taskbar) etc.

You can find out now if you have spyware or malware on your PC.
All I can suggest at this stage is running some scanners.

Some Antivirus scanners cannot remove infections because you are online and
they are running on the system when you perform the scan, you would be best
downloading these scanners and running them in safe mºde

Download the three removal tools and boot into safe mode (Reboot and keep
tapping F8 then choose safe mode from the list) Once in safe mode run all the
scanners and let remove anything fºund.
