Making all of TOC entry a hyperlink to the heading

Guest

Hi
I notice that the page numbers in the TOC (and in cross-references too, of
course)are the links to the heading. I was wondering a couple of things about
this

1. Can I setip the formatting so that the numbers default to blue so that it
is clear that they are hyperlinks

and

Can I set it so that the whole line in the TOC becomes an active hyperlink,
not just the numbers?

Thank you
Phil

In Word 2000 and above, the entire TOC entry is hyperlinked by default.
Although the Hyperlink character style *is* applied, this is not evident
unless you unlink the TOC, because its display is suppressed (by some hidden
MS magic).

Hi. The only evidence I can see that it is an active hyperlink is that if you
hover over the number, you get a popup explaining how to make the hyperjump.
I can color the number itself blue, although it seems I have to override each
toc entry as I can't find a way to do a global update that would make just
the number blue. I think it would be easier if the whole toc entry could be
made a (blue) hyperlink rather than just the number. Well, I could make the
toc entry blue easily enough, but that defeats the purpose if, as you say,
the hyperlinking action is suppressed.
Thanks

That's just the way it is. Users just have to know that the TOC is
hyperlinked. If you really want to emphasize this, I suppose you could
modify the TOC styles to be blue and underlined.

Hi
That won't work by itself, because the largest portion of the TOC entry is
NOT a hyperlink. Only the number is. To avoid users hammering futilely on the
actual toc entry, only the number should be blue, the rest can be black. Is
there any way to selectively highlight one element like that please?

In Word 2002 and 2003, the entire TOC entry IS a hyperlink by default. I
don't know of any way to format just the page numbers with the Hyperlink
character style.
