Making a powerpoint presentation.

Hi, I am confused. I know that when i get a chain letter forwarded to me of
a power point presentation with nice music and pictures, it opens up with
the powerpoint viewer.
BUT, what I want to know is how they make those PPt presentations. What kind
of program can I use that is simple, free, and mainly just for making
powerpoint shows. I DONT need the viewer. I want the program to make the
project.
Let me note that I do NOT have MS Word, if you were going to suggest that
type of program. Does Microsoft have the program to actually MAKE these. I
thank you in advance.
Note I have open office and word perfecton my pc but is there a MS one or
simpler free one.

The program that makes PowerPoint presentations is PowerPoint by Microsoft.
It is not free.

If you have Open Office you have a "clone" of PowerPoint and it is called
Impress. Open it and learn it's features. It will "saveas" a file as a
PowerPoint type file but by default it saves as it's native format. That
default can be changed in options.
