Hmm. I'm running Vista and using their inbuilt firewall.

My router also has a hardware firewall.

And that's it.

Touch wood, I ain't suffered a nasty for a couple of years now and before that, at least two more years.

And the last nasty was caused by visiting sites that, seriously, aren't really recommended from a security point of view ;)

So, sometimes I think the results of some of these protective programs may be just a tad exagerated.

Maybe :)

ZA stopped 11,000 intrusions ... yeah, right, 10,999 were legitimate, the other was MS update.

Legitimate or not my machine hasn't had an infection in the 5 years I have been using Zonealarm security suite...Everything that wants to connect to the internet has to go through me first..
Who cares if it throws up a few false intrusions, it does its job of stopping viruses and spyware and is an excellent software firewall, and to be honest at the end of the day thats all i'm worried about..:D

What I have running [security] Windows defender > Avast AV> Zone alarm>

Windows firewall> all square ASW> Ad-Aware> C Cleaner

I ain`t had a nasty for quite a while. If I do I Just format and reinstall I dont try to find the culprit for more than lets say an hour after that format and reinstall saves me hours of work. Well thats just me:D
