MAJOR OUTLOOK PROBLEM

I am having a major problem in outlook or outlook express.

I have 2 brand new HP laptops and have put MS Office 2003 on them, one works
fine, sends and receives mail no problems, the other one works on my home
broadband, my second office broadband, but in my HQ Broadband it comes back
with an error saying can not connect to the incoming mail server.

I can ping the mail server and i can even telnet in on port 110, but outlook
and outlook express both come up with the message cant connect to your
incoming pop 3 mail server. All other network things that i use work
perfectly, share drives, databases etc.

Has anybody ever had this problem?

Are both programs connecting to a IP address of the server or through
the DNS name? I had this problem once and it was because I was using
the full name of the server instead of the IP address. My homepc
couldn't resolve the DNS name so it could not connect. I fixed it the
rude way by adding a records to the HOSTS file, something like

172.16.0.14 mailserver.xs4all.nl

Maybe it will work, if not good luck finding an answer.
