Hi, Stephanie.
message that my mailbox is full.
Not the mailbox on your computer. The mailbox at your mail SERVER. Your
ISP.
Typically, our monthly subscription includes a few MB of storage on the
ISP's computer. When we download messages into our computer's mailbox,
those are usually deleted from the ISP's computer to make room for more in
our mailbox there. A few large photo files can fill up our mailbox at the
ISP pretty fast! (Yes, it has happened to me!)
There are at least 3 ways you can fix all or part of the problem:
1. In WM, click Tools | Accounts... and your mail server's Properties. On
the Advanced tab, under Delivery, the first line says Leave a copy of
messages on server; the next line says how many days to leave them there and
the final line says to remove them when WM finally deletes them completely
from your mailbox. Most of the time, we do not want to check the "Leave"
box at all, but let the server delete our messages as soon as we've
downloaded them to our own computer. Sometimes, if we are having problems
or changing computers or something, we may want to keep a copy there for a
few days, just in case, and then uncheck the box when the problem is cleared
up or the transition is complete.
2. Go to
http://www.mail2net.com/ (or a similar site) and use the free
service to sign in to your account on your ISP and see all your messages
there. From here, you can delete all of them, or only selected ones, such
as large photos - or lots of spam messages. Once this is done, there should
be room in your mailbox on the ISP's server for more messages. Sorry,
though, the ones that didn't get through while the mailbox was clogged still
won't arrive - unless the sender re-sends them.
3. Contact your ISP and ask them to clear the clutter. You might want to
negotiate with them for a bigger mailbox if you expect lots of photos from
friends and family.
And you might ask friends to notify you before they send large messages, or
arrange to post those on the web somewhere that you can see them without
putting them into your mailbox.
